UK’s Wrecking Ball Sounds proudly presents Neal Smith’s ‘Platinum God’ album on vinyl for the very first time! Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Neal Smith’s groundbreaking solo album is marking its 50th Golden Anniversary.
The album ‘Platinum God’ is often referred to as the “forbidden” album by its creator, Neal Smith. A founding member of Alice Cooper, Smith laid down the beat and co-wrote iconic tracks such as ‘School’s Out’, ‘I’m Eighteen’, ‘Elected’ and ‘Billion Dollar Babies’. After a record-breaking tour in South America, the members of Alice Cooper took a break to pursue their own projects.
In May of 1974, Smith began recording his first solo album ‘Platinum God’. He wrote all the songs, sang the lead vocals, and played the drums. The album also featured additional star power, including Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce, Mike Marconi, Mick Mashbir, Stu Daye, and Richie Scarlet, with contributions from the New York Philharmonic for strings and brass. Recordings were done at Record Plant Studios East in New York and Sunset Sound in Hollywood, overseen by famed producers Jack Douglas (Aerosmith) and Jack Richardson (The Guess Who). The detailed sleeve notes in this reissue explain how the record took 25 years to see the light of day, with Smith eventually releasing the album himself on CD in 1999 on his Kachina Record label. Now, 50 years after its creation, it is finally being released by Wrecking Ball Sounds in the format that was originally envisioned – black vinyl in a gatefold sleeve. This is the ultimate edition of an album five decades in the making – your chance to own a forbidden piece of rock history!
