Dear jean,

The Final Tour of 2024: Let’s Make Some Memories

The tour dates are ready to roll, and I’m excited to hit the road and see so many familiar faces—plus some new ones! I’ll be pouring my heart out on stage, performing songs from Joyful Sky alongside some cherished favorites from my previous albums. Expect energy, expect raw emotion, and expect the blues the way it’s meant to be—real, soulful, and full of life. Make sure to grab your tickets, as some venues are already close to selling out!

Joyful Sky on the Ballot for Grammy Consideration!

This album has been such an inspiring and transformative project for me, I’m overjoyed to see it resonate so widely. Robin and I brought Joyful Sky to life on stage in a live concert performance, captured on film. If you haven’t seen the concert yet, please feel free to visit Robin’s site where it is available as a pay-per-view.  The concert is also available on DVD/ Blu-Ray HERE.

Sari's puppy Prudence

Meet Prudence: My New Road Warrior

Will and I have a new travel companion stateside. I can’t wait to introduce you to— Prudence, my adorable pit bull puppy. She’s already won my heart and has a presence that reminds me to find joy even on the hardest days. Prudence brings an energy that keeps me grounded, and she’s become a beautiful source of inspiration as I work on new music.

Change is in the air, as vivid autumn colors sweep across the New York landscape. Just as the seasons shift, so too does our world. Both the arrival of fall and the intensity of the election period are powerful symbols of change, renewal, and possibility. This season, as we witness the world transforming around us, we’re reminded of our own role in shaping the future ahead. Mine is to make music, and hopefully make people happy.

Thank you for your love and support. None of this would be possible without fans like you. I’m so grateful to have you by my side.

With gratitude,

Sari xo

NEW TOUR DATES!

Tickets on sale now

I’ve reached a pivotal moment in my career, where something intangible is driving me forward with more determination than ever. After years of hard work, I feel ready to embrace the inevitable challenges of being a touring musician and songwriter with renewed energy.

Since my last solo studio album, Never Say Never, I’ve experienced both unexpected detours and unexpected successes—most recently, collaborating with Robin Trower on our #1 Billboard charting album, Joyful Sky and the pay-per-view Joyful Sky In Concert.

Now, I’m preparing to break new ground with my next solo album, set to release early next year. Creating this album has been both exhilarating and exhausting. While I’ve written some incredible songs, especially alongside my producer Henning Gehrke, there have been moments of deep frustration and self-doubt, wondering if I can surpass my previous work.

In those moments, when I feel stuck and cut off from inspiration, I’ve come to realize that the light I need comes from you—my fans. That’s why I’m taking a short break from the studio to embark on one final tour this year. Seeing you all will mean more to me than you know.

With love,
Sari xo

Dear jean Paul,

It flew by! Just two shows left on our UK run. We’ve almost made it to the end. Last night’s show was another sell-out, a massive success despite challenging acoustics. I’m so thrilled to be back to work, and I’m not letting anything compromise our enjoyment.

I’m up early Saturday morning. I have a few rare days off. My plan is to head to Wales to work with my writing partner, Steve Wright, and then wrap up our first tour in two years. But, beyond the usual exhaustion from the inevitable lack of sleep, I’m feeling off. I take one of the Covid tests I’ve brought with me from New York. For the first time, I see the dreaded double red lines rapidly appear. I feel my heart pick up its pace, struggling to break free of my chest, as I stifle a curse in disbelief and disappointment.

Now what? I’m alone. I suddenly feel very far from home. The band has dispersed for all corners of England. Bob is heading for his flight to Copenhagen. Shows, hotels, and flights need to be canceled. Tickets need to be refunded. My management is again facing the painful task of rescheduling shows and unfurling complicated logistics.

I need a place to quarantine, but my hotel is booked. I’m told all hotels in the area are full due to a music festival in town. I sigh and point to my photo on the cover of the festival magazine, smiling through my mask.

I sense my temperature rise as my health sharply declines. I’m sitting outside the hotel beside my luggage, searching for a hotel room on Expedia. An hour later, I found one in Crewe. A taxi is called, and I double mask to protect the driver. He’s not concerned. I open all the windows anyway.

The hotel doesn’t offer room service, but it’s agreed that my meals will be delivered on a tray left in the hallway outside my door. I order Voss bottled water, Lemsip Max Cold & Flu (a lifesaver), and some nuts from Amazon. Now it’s time to get down to the serious business of getting better. There’s only one week before my flight back to New York.

I’m still testing positive one day before my flight, rendering me unfit to fly. A negative result is required before I can travel to the US, so I’ve had to postpone my flight. The next window of availability is Tuesday. Most of the flights are now full, so I could be stuck for another week if I miss this one.

Perhaps it was too far a leap of faith to think we could get through the tour beyond Covid’s long reach. But sometimes, to live, to truly live, we must be willing to risk. This tour was worth it, as it hit some real high notes.

It was the most joyful experience I’ve had on tour. Fans came out in unexpected numbers across Europe and the UK to show their love and support with unbridled enthusiasm. I sensed that the connection between myself and the audience was more profound than ever before.

The success of this tour will allow me to reach more people in more places around the world. And I’ll have the privilege of continuing to do what I love.

We’ve gotten through lockdowns, and many of us through quarantines. Now, I can’t wait to be the most negative woman you know. Here’s to our better days that are just ahead. I’m positive!

Sending love,
Sari xo

UK APRIL TOUR DATES & CONCERT FOR UKRAINE

Dear jean Paul,

Finding the courage to be grateful when the world around us is in an awful state is the only way I can find the strength to shift my perception enough to change the world I see.

Being back on tour is a luxury, especially after being unable to work for 2-years. I’ve been humbled by the overwhelming welcome from fans across Europe who have renewed my faith in the future.

The first of our SOLD-OUT shows was in Paris at the legendary Jazz Club Etoile, where big names of soul and blues like Dizzy Gillespie, Cab Calloway, BB King, Fats Domino, and Ike Turner graced the stage. We ended the European segment of the tour on a high with yet another SOLD-OUT show in The Netherlands at Hofsteenge Grolloo, home of the Holland International Blues Festival.

There were great interviews, including one with BBC Radio Leeds and Radio Perfecto France. We made new friends, including a one-eyed horse that loved to be pet and a dog that insisted on giving me a ride, along with some friendly donkeys at a Donkey Farm where we stayed. Photos below. 🙂

We arrived at our final UK destination at precisely 3 AM after an 18-hour travel day. We spent a comfortable 7-hours on a ferry from The Netherlands across the North Sea. With several restaurants, cafes, shopping areas and a movie theatre, there was enough to keep us busy. I watched Stephen Spielberg’s rendition of “West Side Story.” Bring tissues.

To our UK fans, we are now here for you. Let’s create some unforgettable memories together!

Sending love,
Sari x

Stand With Kyiv

Dear jean Paul,

My grandfather was 14-years old when he left Kyiv in 1912 on a steamship called Amerika. It sailed from Hamburg to New York City. When he and his young sister finally reached New York harbor, the sight of the Statue of Liberty was a beacon of hope for those who sought democracy and its values for all of humanity.

My roots run deep in Ukraine. My heart is with all the victims of this heinous war. If you’d like to donate to help people in Ukraine, you’ll find good resources here: The Washington PostThe Times UK. I’ve teamed up with the volunteers at Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue who have partnered with Ukraine Lifeline. Learn more about their life-saving work in the video below.

Turning now to the upcoming BACK TO LA TOUR 2022, we’re in the final stages of preparation. Next week, the band and I will be in rehearsal finalizing what I believe will be our best live show ever. Being off the road for this long period of time has given me a fresh perspective on exactly what I want to achieve and how best to accomplish those goals to make our shows a truly unforgettable experience for the audience. I hope you will agree!

In celebration of our tour, we’ve launched a special tour t-shirt! I encourage you to please pre-order your shirt now and bring it with you to a show, where I’ll be delighted to sign it for you!

Dear jean Paul,

As we enter a promising new year, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the one coming to an end and thank you emphatically for being an essential part of my journey.

I shared the New Year’s message below on social media saying that I believe this is the time to take a leap of faith and trust that 2022 will be one of our best years ever. We know that great things are possible when we work together.

Happy New Year

But as Covid has yet again reared its ugly head, I find comfort in the wise words given to us by Helen Keller, “Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy, and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.”

I’ll be back to you soon with an exciting tour announcement, and a “new” music video. More about that in the following email.

Sending love and best wishes for a calm, equitable, and music-filled 2022,
Sari

Dear jean Paul,

I’ve been proud to support Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center since 2019. It seems fitting that my first show since being grounded by Covid is a benefit concert for Roswell Park. Roswell has helped thousands of people come back from adversity far worse than I’ve ever faced.

On Nov. 20th, I’ll walk onto a stage for the first time in 20 months, knowing that with Roswell’s patients in my heart, I will also find recovery of my own resilience.

Hoping you stay warmhearted as we head into the colder months. I’ll be sharing some new music with you soon, so please stand by. Do feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have. It’s always lovely to hear from you!

Sending love,
Sari x

“America’s Grand Reopening, Postponed.”

Headline in the New York Times – September 15, 2021

Dear Friends,

We all hoped that a sense of normalcy would have been restored to our lives by the fall. But, as we take measure of the Covid crisis, it is becoming increasingly clear that Covid continues to demand our attention and intrude into our lives.

Sudden changes in Covid restrictions and mandatory quarantines have been wreaking havoc with our tour. And, as the more contagious Delta variant increases fears of infection, I feel the moral obligation to put the safety of my fans and bandmates before my desire to get back on tour.

With a heavy heart, I must announce the postponement of our fall tour until early 2022. Like performers and businesses worldwide, I, too, am forced to accept that it is not a prudent time to get back to work just yet.

I’m turning my focus to a brighter outlook for 2022. We will get through this together.

Sending love,
Sari x

“Where Did You Sleep Last Night?”

Where Did You Sleep Last Night Video

Sari Schorr Takes to the Piano and Brings a Folk-Blues Classic into Fresh Limelight & Relevance

Lead Belly inspired a generation of musicians, myself included. Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Rory Gallagher are just a few who have been deeply influenced by his music. Kurt Cobain said that Lead Belly was his favorite performer.

I’ve been singing songs made famous by Lead Belly worldwide, in concert halls like the great Carnegie Hall to festival stages such as The Montreux Jazz Festival. It’s a privilege to introduce his music to a whole new audience.

I’ve wanted to record a rendition of “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?” for many years. But first, I had to find a way to make the song my own. I found the inspiration by accident one day during Covid, seated at my piano. As I began to reharmonize the song, a new perspective emerged. The new chord progression dramatically altered the mood and a new verse shifted the song’s focus onto events that sparked the birth of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2013 which protested police brutality and systematic racism that overwhelmingly affects the Black community.

The official release date is August 6th. The video is available for you to see with this private link ⬇️

I hope you enjoy the recording as much as I enjoyed investing myself in this haunting blues classic.

500+ miles for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center

Thank you to all who helped me on my mission to raise funds for Roswell! The Empire State Ride raised more than 1.6 million dollars! We rode from Staten Island to Niagara Falls and with every pedal stroke I gave thanks to the incredible people I met and for the stories I heard that changed my life forever.

Let’s get personal….my butt is taking a beating. The Empire State Ride is a challenge I stand up for, even more so after sitting on the saddle with a “rear” view of many long training miles. But finding a cure for cancer is a greater challenge and this 500-mile ride from NYC to the Canadian border will help raise desperately needed funds for cutting-edge cancer research. The fine folks at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center are leading the battle to find a cure.

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be performing several benefit concerts for Roswell Park in the New York area, before heading to the UK and Europe for our fall tour!

by Marc Copely

I recently had the pleasure of working with Marc on something you’ll hear very soon (teaser). Marc is an extraordinary singer/songwriter, producer, co-writer, and film and TV composer. His songs are both timeless and mesmerizing. I highly recommend listening to anything Marc has put his name to.

Black And Blue by Jeff Pegues

Last March, I had an interview with CBS News Justice and Homeland Security Correspondent, Jeff Pegues to discuss how I was coping with the pandemic. Beyond music, Jeff and I share a common interest.

I’ve been working with my local police department in Brooklyn to help find ways to improve the relationship between the police and our community. Jeff takes a revealing look into the heart of the growing crisis with perspectives from both sides of the community-police divide.

Sadly, we lost the last of our pit bull triplets last week. A real heartbreak. In their honor, I’ve started working on a collection of photos featuring the dogs of Brooklyn with a ‘tale’ or two. Stay tuned…

“All things seem possible in May.”

– Edwin Way Teale

Three years ago, I began recording the follow-up to my debut album, A Force of Nature, a title penned by Mike Vernon and a moniker more daunting to live up to than I would admit.

A songwriter always writes with the aspiration that the listener will find themselves within the lines of their song. When it happens and a song resonates, it belongs as much to the listener as the writer.

I couldn’t have foreseen that Never Say Never would be one of the albums that so many people would tell me helped carry them through the pandemic. I feel comforted that my songs could help transport folks to a better place during hard times. I’ve struggled in the past with the fear that my ambition to create music would benefit few others than myself. It’s a relief to be proven wrong.

I know that songs can help us access the strong emotional reservoir that exists within us all. It can take us to the place where our hope and dreams safely reside, sheltered from the hard hitting hand of reality. That is always what I consider to be the greatest achievement of my music.

Bet On The Blues by Paul Oscher
Released on Blues Fidelity 2010

Paul Oscher, was born in Brooklyn and was an American blues singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist who played in Muddy Waters’ band. He played harmonica, guitar and piano, often all at the same time. Paul passed away in April due to complications of the coronavirus. We’ve lost a rare talent and beautiful, gentle soul.

“Paul Oscher plays the soul I feel.” – Muddy Waters

I’m reading

The Goldfinch

This is a stay-up-all-night classic story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention. From the streets of New York City to the gritty underworld of the art world, this Pulitzer Prize winner connects with the heart and mind.

I’m watching

My Octopus Teacher (Netflix)

Octopuses are truly wondrous creatures and probably the smartest of invertebrates. “My Octopus Teacher,” won this year’s Academy award for Best Documentary and I’m glad it did. This is an unexpectedly tender love story about a South African man and an octopus that serves to remind us about the need to live in the moment.
