Daughter of English and Trinidadian parents, award-winning jazz vocalist Tessa Souter’s « lush-toned » voice, and penchant for exploring strikingly beautiful music mostly untouched by other vocalists, has set her apart as « one of the few exceptional standouts in the crowded field of female jazz singers. » (Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times)
A singer with « a voice to believe in » (Stephen Marlbank), from the Philharmonic halls of Russia – where she has had four sell out national tours – to the intimacy of New York’s jazz clubs, Souter’s live performances showcase her emotional depth, striking authenticity, and charismatic stage presence, spiced with a crackling sense of humor.
She will be joined by Christian Tamburr (vibes), Boris Kozlov (bass) and Keita Ogawa (percussion) doing cuts from her latest album, Beyond the Blue (Motema) – a jazz soujourn, with Steve Kuhn, David Finck, Billy Drummond, Joe Locke, Gary Versace and Joel Frahm, through classical repertoire, featuring (mostly) Souter’s lyrics.
