In 2010, exhausted by the rigors of touring in their own respective bands, and worn out from spending time apart, musician couple Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi made a sensible decision: They built a studio behind their Jacksonville, Florida, home, and joined forces to form their own band, Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Perhaps it was their time. Trucks is a slide-guitar prodigy and joined the Allman Brothers Band in 1999, and Tedeschi has been nominated for five Grammy Awards. The group is rounded out by nine supremely talented musicians, including two backup singers, twin percussionists, a three-piece horn section, one keyboardist/flute player, and a rotating bassist.

The band’s sound combines Trucks and Tedeschi’s musical influences—namely blues-rock and dirt-stained back porch roots rock. It is a beatific blend prominently displayed on the group’s Grammy Award-winning 2011 debut, Revelator. Now, on August 20, TTB returns with its second full-length LP, Made Up Mind.

This summer, the band has been breaking out several of their new cuts onstage.
