Every year we’re treated to hundreds of releases and entertained by the countless multitudes of touring acts that grace the stages of clubs and festivals around the world. But even with all this activity, the blues unfortunately doesn’t always enjoy the same commercial success and visibility afforded by its much younger musical offspring in the pop/rock world.
That’s where The Blues Foundation comes in. The Blues Foundation helps raise the profile of this historically and culturally significant musical art form, as well as the many talented individuals behind it, through its numerous programs such as the Blues Music Awards, the Blues Hall of Fame, the International Blues Challenge, and the Keeping the Blues Alive Awards. Your membership helps support these vital programs, in addition to allowing you the privilege of casting your vote in the one of the biggest and most celebrated blues events of the year.
The 34th annual Blues Music Awards will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Voting is already underway and ends at 07:59:59 (CST) Friday, March 1, 2013. To be eligible to vote you must be a member of The Blues Foundation. I’m reaching out to all of our Delta Groove friends and fans. The Mannish Boys are nominated in 3 different categories for this years Blues Music Awards. Album of the year, Traditional Blues album of the yearand Band of the year. My feeling is that with all the politics the Boys have the best chance to possibly win for best Traditional Blues album. The album “Double Dynamite” was a true labor of love. Two discs with a cavalcade of stars (Including Mud Morganfield) doing nothing but low down traditional blues. It would sure be great medicine to bring a trophy home to Finis and Kid. The Mannish Boys will be playing live at the awards. Hopefully Kid and Finis can be in attendance.
