Andrew Woolfolk of Earth Wind & Fire
(April 25, 2022) Today we say a sad goodbye to a horn player who fueled so many of our favorite hits. Andrew Woolfolk II was an integral part of the famed Earth Wind & Fire horns, and played on countless hits by that group and more. He was 71.
The Texas native and Colorado transplant joined EWF in 1972, and his saxophone graced hits from “September” to “Shining Star” to “After The Love Is Gone.” He also worked on top tier projects for other artists such as Phil Collins, Deniece Williams, Level 42
Woolfolk, who was known for both his innovative interpretations and some incredible sax runs, was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2017. With EWF, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Woolfolk was another of the great artists who helped create the gold age of soul music and R&B, with expert musicianship and a versatility that allowed him to excel at every project he touched. He will be missed.
