January is a great month – Eddy Clearwater celebrates his birthday with an annual concert, cake and celebration at Evanston SPACE on January 6th with friends who always join him on stage, his musical collaborator and producer of West Side Strut, Ronnie Baker Brooks, always a fun time when the joint gets jumpin with Billy Branch & Wayne Baker Brooks. This will be recorded for a future broadcast on WDCB Listener-Supported Jazz & Blues. And Big Bill Morganfield releases his CD on Black Shuck Records, ‘Bloodstains On The Wall’ in January …. I’m looking forward to performing at this year’s 2016 Blues Blast Music Awards as a special guest of Shoji Naito, my sideman of over 15+ years, who I have always thought of like my son. Shoji’s “New Cool Old School” is nominated for 2016 Blues Blast Music Awards for best ‘New Artist Debut Album’ that I was honored to be featured singing on four tracks (Blues Singer Katherine Davis,Willie Buck and Milwaukee Slim are also featured artists). Getting ready with less than a month to go until the Blues Hall of Fame induction on May 4th in Memphis. There will even be a large display case with my memorabilia. Last Monday, WXRT Tom Marker #Bluesbreakersannounced the line-up for the Chicago Blues Festival that I’ll be the headliner on Sunday, June 12th 6:30PM on the Petrilo stage and I will be joined at 8-9:30pm for an Otis Rush Tribute featuring an All-Star Band.
