C’est donc avec un nouveau chanteur nommé Kelly Hansen débauché du groupe Hurricane, un nouveau bassiste Jeff Pilson issu de Dokken et Jason “The Kid” Bonham à la batterie que Mick Jones reforme Foreigner pour une tournée ‘Greatest hits’. Le concert du 26 novembre capté à Las Vegas est choisi pour y enregistrer cet excellent album live où il faut bien l’avouer, notre ami Hansen s’en sort et ce, grâce à un registre vocal vraiment très proche de celui du chanteur originel, Lou Gramm, magnifiquement bien. Les versions proposées apparaissent comme étant tout particulièrement survitaminées notamment That Was Yesterday dont on n’espérait plus de version live. Et puis, il y a cette pièce intitulée Starrider (interprétée par Mick Jones) sortie des archives du groupe, plus précisément du premier opus (1977) qui ravit les fans de la première heure. Comment ne pas faire figurer les tubes planétaires que sont Urgent et I Want To Know What Love Is mais aussi Juke Box Hero où notre ‘Micky’ s’amuse à dévier vers un Whole Lotta Love du plus bel effet de qui vous savez et ce, sous l’oeil très avisé de Jason Bonham. Pour les nostalgiques du groupe, cet album live est parfait.
ED GAGLIARDI
Edward John ‘Ed’ Gagliardi (born February 13, 1952, in New York City, NY, USA) was an American bass guitarist who was the original bass player for the 1970s rock band Foreigner. He was a member of Foreigner from the beginning in 1976. Gagliardi played a Rickenbacker bass guitar left-handed even though he was a naturally right-handed. He claimed he did that because of his devotion to Paul McCartney as bass playing inspiration. Gagliardi was on the albums Foreigner and Double Vision, but he was replaced by Rick Wills in 1979.
In 1981 he was part of the band Spys with former Foreigner keyboardist Al Greenwood.[1]
He died on May 11, 2014. Gagliardi’s daughter Nicole informed fans of his passing on May 11, writing, “Now that information has circulated, I would like to prevent misinformation and be the one to let everyone know that my father, Ed Gagliardi, passed away tonight at 7:40, after 8 years of battling cancer. There are no words. We appreciate your prayers and well wishes. We are shocked and heartbroken, thank you for your loyal fandom of an amazing man. I love you Daddy.”
