The King of the Slide Guitar Sings to Chicago
Chicago R&B disk jockey and blues music buff Big Bill Hill (bottom left) was photographed by George Adins as he broadcasted none other than Elmore James in the late 50’s. The legendary guitarist, whose slide skills still astound to this day, was backed by saxophonist J.T. Brown and his cousin, fellow guitarist Homesick James during this radio performance.

Mississippi John Hurt Performs “You Got To Walk That Lonesome Valley”
Peter Seeger’s folk music program of the 1960’s, Rainbow Quest, captured a true American treasure when Mississippi John Hurt was featured as a guest upon the show. Born with a passion for the blues, Hurt excitedly imparted the message of “You Got to Walk that Lonesome Valley”before his beautiful fretwork kicked off this gospel classic.

Clapton Serenades With “Have You Ever Loved a Woman”
The audience of 2004’s Crossroads Guitar Festival was treated a gorgeously soulful rendition of Freddie King’s “Have You Ever Loved a Woman”, courtesy of the festival’s founder, Eric Clapton. No stranger to the 1960 classic, Clapton has been performing King’s signature number since the mid 60’s when he was with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. The rock legend was backed at this Crossroads performance by a stellar band that featured Doyle Bramhall II, Chris Stainton, Billy Preston, Nathan East, and Steve Gadd.
