MARCUS MILLER about GEORGE DUKE

Headed to DC for the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Competition, a special tribute to the late George Duke, who was a longtime friend of the Institute who was scheduled to serve as the Musical Director, and the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Wayne Shorter. I’ll be performing with LedisiRoy HargroveHerbie Hancock, Robben Ford,Jimmy HeathTake 6Branford Marsalis, Jimmy Heath, the winner of the competition and several other friends. Really looking forward to it.
This Monday evening @[123972210968351:274:Wayne Shorter] will be honored with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Lifetime Achievement Award. In the Institute's<br /><br /><br />
 nearly 30-year history, this is only the second time the award has been presented, the first being to @[36465344630:274:Quincy Jones] in 1996. There will also be a special tribute to the late @[132642616778075:274:George Duke], a longtime friend and supporter of the Institute, who was scheduled to serve as the evening's Musical Director. Many of Duke's longtime musical collaborators will perform in his memory as well as honor Wayne including @[125708060189:274:Marcus Miller], @[26412576481:274:Ledisi], @[107675335928651:274:Take 6], @[283100175149924:274:Terri Lyne Carrington], @[31814948535:274:Branford Marsalis], @[35402765979:274:Kurt Elling] and so many more. @[223350510650:274:John Beasley] will serve as music director.
