This year, we asked a number of Official SXSW Artists to give us their PRO-TIPs for making the most of the week commonly referred to as “Summer Camp for Bands.”

Ashanti Floyd calls himself “The Mad Violinist,” and you need only to look at a photo of his frayed, frizzy bowstrings onstage with his band to know why. Last year, Symphony Crack Orchestra took their unique sound to Indie Week in Ireland, where they won its competition and followed it up with an appearance at Indie Week Toronto. We caught up with The Mad Violinist himself as he prepared for a much-anticipated show in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.

The right song can make or break a scene. You already know what emotional feel you want. So how do you find the music to match what’s in your head? Finding the right music for film and TV soundtracks is an art. Many factors play into picking the best song, or the right composer to write the score. Make your job easier by taking out the hassle of searching out the musicians, and let them come to you.

CMJ is not some messy festival in the middle of a field. Oh no. CMJ is a festival spread throughout the gloriously messy clubs of New York City.
